Accommodation
Four 4-person cottages (35 m2 / 377 ft2) with double beds and bunk beds, and four 2-person cottages with double beds (22 m2 / 237 ft2). Kitchenette, a bathroom with a shower, a TV, a DVD player and a CD player/radio in every house. Each house has a small porch with a hot tub and a barbecue. Minimum stay: two nights.
Board
Guests prepare their own meals. The nearest shops, supermarkets and restaurants are in Hveragerði (3 km / 1.8 mi). There are also restaurants at the Eldhestar guesthouse (4 km / 2.5 mi) and in Selfoss (15 km / 9 mi).
Service and recreation
Interesting hiking trails around the valleys and mountains by the greenhouse town of Hveragerði. Guided hiking tours, bike rental and surfboard rental on offer from Iceland Activities in Hveragerði. Horse tours on offer at Eldhestar (4 km / 2.5 mi). At Stokkseyri (30 km / 19 mi) you can rent a kayak or visit the Icelandic Wonders Museum, which has exhibitions about elves, trolls and the northern lights. District museum, The House, at Eyrarbakki (26 km / 16 mi). Geothermal Park (Hveragarðurinn) and a good geothermal pool (Laugaskarð) in Hveragerði (3 km / 1.8 mi). There’s a nine-hole golf course in a beautiful setting near the geothermal area in Hveragerði (5 km / 3 mi). The nearest towns with shops, supermarkets, restaurant and various other services are Hveragerði (3 km / 1.8 mi) and Selfoss (15 km / 9 mi). It is 36 km / 22 mi to the Reykjavík capital area from Núpar.
The greenhouse town, hiking trails and natural hot pools
The town of Hveragerði is unique in that it stands almost on top of a geothermal area and was in fact established in the 1940s around the area’s extensive greenhouse farming activity. Overlooking the town is Reykjadalur, a popular hiking and recreational area. There is a lot of hot water in the ground, and you can find natural hot pools where geothermal waters have mixed with pure mountain streams in the grassy valleys and colourful ravines. Relaxing in these pools in the tranquil, pristine nature is an unforgettable experience.
Geysir, Gullfoss and Þingvellir National Park
From Núpar, you can make day tours around the countryside in the South Iceland lowlands and visit many of the country’s most famous natural attractions. Travelling inland, where Mt. Hekla volcano towers over the countryside, are world famous attractions such as the Geysir geothermal area (66 km / 41 mi) and Gullfoss (76 km / 47 mi), Iceland’s most beautiful waterfall. Þingvellir National Park, a place of incomparable natural beauty, is just 48 km / 30 mi from Núpar. Þingvellir is almost sacred in the eyes of Icelanders, as it was here that the ancient Alþingi (‘Althing’, Iceland’s parliament) was established in the year 930 and where the Republic of Iceland was founded on June 17th, 1944.
Reykjanes peninsula, Krýsuvík and the Blue Lagoon
Núpar is located by route no 380/427, Suðurstrandarvegur, which runs along the southern coast of the Reykjanes peninsula, through the fishing village of Þorlákshöfn to the fishery town of Grindavík (74 km / 46 mi). The Reykjanes peninsula landscape is uniquely beautiful, moulded by eruptions and geothermal forces. It is interesting to see places such as the geothermal area in Krýsuvík (53 km / 33 mi), but most tourists make their way to the world-famous Blue Lagoon, a vast geothermal spa surrounded by jagged lava fields (6 km / 3.7 mi from Grindavík). It is 100 km / 62 mi from Núpar to Keflavík International Airport via Suðurstrandarvegur road.
