Accommodation

Twelve double/twin rooms in the main building and in a comfortable guesthouse offering rooms with private bathroom. Also six cosy summer cottages for two to six people (perfect for families) with bathrooms and cooking facilities. Hot tub by the main main building. From Hestheimar is a beautiful view of landmarks such as Eyjafjallajökull Glacier and Mt. Hekla, and on a clear winter’s evening, guests may be treated to a spectacular show of Northern Lights.

 
Board

Breakfast is served all year and during summer guests can order dinner in advance; soup, salad, homemade bread and one main course. A dining room for up to 60 people, located in the main building, well suited to a range of events, motivational and mystery tours, team-building activities, dances and other celebrations. From the dining room you have a beautiful view over the countryside to the volcano Hekla and three glaciers: Tindfjallajökull, Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. 

 
Service and recreation

Just next Hestheimar is a horse ranch where guests can get a horse-riding lesson. More information and a telephone number to the stable is available at Hestheimar. 

The area offers a number of lovely hiking and cycling trails. The nearest town is Hella (10 km / 6 mi), where you will find a geothermal pool, shops, restaurants and various other services.

 
Geysir, Gullfoss, Þjórsárdalur and Landmannalaugar

Hestheimar is centrally located in the southern lowlands and is an ideal place to stay for anyone who wants to see the best-known natural treasures and popular attractions in the region. On a day tour, you can comfortably make a trip to the Geysir geothermal area (69 km / 43 mi) and spend some time at Iceland’s most beautiful waterfall, Gullfoss. Þjórsárdalur (63 km / 39 mi) is a beautiful spot close to the foothills of Hekla, where you can find lovely hiking trails and see the reconstruction of the Saga Age farm at Stöng. It is 34 km / 21 mi from Þjórsárdalur to Landmannalaugar.

 
The Saga Centre, Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss and Vestmannaeyjar

To the east of Hestheimar, the historical trails of Njál’s Saga lead to the charming and beautiful countryside under Eyjafjallajökull glacier. In the village at Hvolsvöllur (24 km / 15 mi) is the Icelandic Saga Centre (Sögusetrið) where you can learn about the world of Icelandic sagas and Norse mythology. It is 48 km / 30 mi to the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall, and from there it is 27 km / 17 mi to another famous waterfall, Skógafoss. From Landeyjahöfn (56 km / 35 mi) you can take a 35-minute ferry ride to Vestmannaeyjar, or the Westman Islands, a group of islands off the south coast.
