17 double/twin en-suite rooms. Further 11 rooms in the same building as the restaurant, five rooms in a separate building and one room in a small 15-m2 (161 ft2) cottage with a veranda. One en-suite room sleeping three on the upper floor (42 m2 /452 ft2) of a building adjacent to the main building, a small kitchen with a coffee machine and a fridge. Two rooms sleeping three in 36 m2 (387 ft2) cottages with fully equipped bathrooms and small kitchen areas. Free Wi-Fi in all the rooms and common area. Camping and caravan area nearby.

The ferry harbour in Seyðisfjörður is 58 km / 30 mi away.

Hotel Svartiskógur is in an attractive and peaceful rural area under the south-facing slopes of the mountains between Vopnafjörður and Fljótsdalshérað region, the vastest continuous lowland area of East Iceland. Fljótsdalshérað – Borgarfjörður eystri

The Fljótsdalshérað region is amongst the most beautiful places in Iceland, with diverse landscapes and temperate weather conditions in south and southwesterly winds. Amongst places of interest are forest Hallormsstaðaskógur, waterfall Hengifoss and the Skriðuklaustur Centre of Culture and History in Fljótsdalur valley. From Fljótsdalur the road goes all the way to the dam by hydroelectric power plant Kárahnjúkar. The distance from Hotel Svartiskógur to Borgarfjörður eystri, renowned for its natural beauty and majestic ring of mountains, is 73 km / 45 mi.

 
Vopnafjörður

Around 25 km /16 mi from Svartiskógur, the road turns into Hellisheiði mountain road which offers the shortest route to Vopnafjörður fjord (60 km / 37 mi). On a bright day, the Hellisheiði road (open in summer, gravel road reaching 655 m / 2100 ft.), is suitable for all types of vehicles and boasts great views. In Vopnafjörður, there is amongst other things a good artefact museum in a stately 19th century turf house at Burstarfell. One of Iceland's most renowned salmon rivers, Hofsá in Vopnafjörður, runs through the area.
