All rooms have a private bathroom. The accommodation is in three houses; double, triple and quadruple rooms. Free Wi-Fi in all rooms and communal areas.

Breakfast is served in a bright dining room, where dinner and light meals are also served. Licensed bar. Dinner needs to be booked in advance in winter.

 
Recreation and services

Laundry facilities on-site. Shop and geothermal swimming pool at Laugar about 1 km (0.1 mi) from the guesthouse. Horse rentals at Hraunkot (30km/18 mi) and Saltvík just south of Húsavík (36 km/23 mi). 9-hole golf course just outside Húsavík (40km/24 mi) and next to Reykjahlíð by Lake Mývatn (27km/16 mi).

 
Lush valleys and Iceland’s largest turf house

The surrounding countryside offers opportunities for pleasant walks and day trips by car. Further down the valley you will find the lake Vestmannsvatn with its green banks; a popular place for trout fishing. From here it is not far to Grenjaðarstaður, an old estate where you can see the largest turf house in Iceland (775 m2). From here you can see Laxá, one of the best salmon rivers in Iceland and for many the most beautiful river, too.

 
Whales, Jökulsárgljúfur, Dettifoss

Húsavík (40 km/24 mi) is known as the ‘Whale Watching Capital’ of Iceland. Whale watching tours operate daily from the harbour. There is also an interesting whale museum. Some of Iceland’s most spectacular natural gems including Ásbyrgi and Jökulsárgljúfur canyons and Dettifoss Waterfall, are about 100 km (62 mi) from Stóru-Laugar, in the northernmost part of the magnificent Vatnajökull National Park.

 
Paradise for nature lovers

The area around Lake Mývatn is an other-worldly place, well known for its natural beauty and unique moon-like landscape. The distance from Stóru-Laugar to Mývatn is 27 km (16 mi). Popular places of interest around Lake Mývatn include Dimmuborgir lava fields, Hverfjall mountain and the geothermal area Hverarönd. After a busy day of exploration a visit to the Mývatn Nature Baths comes recommended. Relax in the milky-blue waters or steam baths, before driving back to Stóru-Laugar.
