How to find?
Syðri-Vík is by road no. 917
From Vopnafjörður village: Leave Vopnafjörður on road no. 85 in direction Egilsstaðir/Akureyri. After only 4 km you need to turn left into road no. 917. After only about 3 km you find farm Syðri-Vík on your right.
From Reykjahlíð village (by Lake Mývatn): Leave Reykjahlið on road no. 1 heading for Egilsstaðir. Stay on road no. 1 for about 83 km and then turn left into road no. 85. Stay on road no. 85 for about 50 km and then you should turn right into road no. 917. After only about 3 km you find the farm Syðri-Vík on your right.
From Egilsstaðir: Leave Egilsstaðir on road no. 1, direction Akureyri/Lake Mývatn. Stay on road no. 1 for 85 km and then you need to turn right into road no. 85. Stay on road no. 85 for about 50 km and then you should turn right into road no. 917. After only about 3 km you find the farm Syðri-Vík on your right.
Note: over the summertime it is possible to take the mountain road Hellisheiði-Eystri (no. 917) and then the direction from Egilsstaðir are as follows: Leave Egilsstaðir on road no. 1, direction Akureyri/Lake Mývatn. Stay on road no. 1 for 23 km and then you need to turn right into road no. 917. Stay on road no. 917 for about 62 km (passing the Hellisheiði-Eystri heath) and then you find the farm Syðri-Vík on your left.
If travelling in spring or autumn then ask the hosts where you stay the night before to double check if the road over Hellisheiði-Eystri heath is open, if travelling in winter then see the other directions to farm Syðri-Vík.
