Two charming houses, Jónatanshús and Mínukot, located on Hrísey Island. Named 'the pearl of Eyjafjörður fjord', Hrísey is a beautiful sparsely populated island with endless views, home to only 180 inhabitants. The houses are close to all public services such as a restaurant, bank and local geothermal swimming pool.
Jónatanshús has 3 large bedrooms and can host up to 9 people. Two bathrooms. Jacuzzi in the garden.
Mínukot has 1 large bedroom and can host 4-6 people.
Various activities are offered in the area for example hiking, sea angling, tractor rides and lighthouse tours. The island is also a paradise for birdwatching with around 40 species of birds nesting in the area.
About Hrísey - the pearl of Eyjafjörður
Hrísey is a peaceful island in the middle of Eyjafjörður fjord. It is the second largest island in Iceland, after Heimaey in the south. The island is a well known paradise for bird watchers and the most abundant of all birds on the island is the ptarmigan. About 40 species of birds nest on the island.
Golf: Akureyri 30 km, Svarfaðardalur 20 km.
Horse rental: Kálfsskinn 1 km, and Svarfaðardalur 16 km.
Whale watching: Hauganes 5 km, and Dalvík 14 km.
English, Italian, German and Scandinavian languages spoken.
How to find?
From Reykjavik: Take road no.1 north heading for Akureyri. When you have about 10 km left to Akureyri you will find road 82 on your left side heading for Dalvík. Drive about 22 km. until you find road 808 on your right side to Árskórssandur. You should see the ferry sign.
From Akureyri: Leave Akureyri on road no. 1, heading for Varmahlíð. After about 10 km you need to turn right into road no. 82. Stay on road no. 82 for about 22 km until you see on your left side rode 808 to Arskórssandur. Go to the harbor where ferry Sæfari take you in 15 min ride to Hrisey
The ferry Sævar
A ferry connects Hrísey with the mainland by the village of Ásskógssandur. The journey only takes about 15 minutes. The time schedule varies according to time of year.
